CEO Invro Ltd.We have been working for several years on low power radio technology and the integration of advanced amplifier and power management techniques with FM and AM radio receivers. The result of this is that we can deliver radio reception at a fraction of the power consumption normally associated with portable radios. The implications of this are important for making radio reception possible where no mains electricity exists or where true portability is required. Batteries are expensive relative to average income wherever you are in the world.
For people who do not enjoy mains electricity, battery powered or alternatively-powered radios are the only choice. Whichever solution is best, a low power consumption radio is essential.
Wind-up and solar powered radios need a storage battery but storage batteries have a limited life. When the storage battery fails, the radio dies. Supercapacitors, with an infinite cycle life, are better even though they are expensive and can only hold a small charge. But using our low-power radio technology makes all the difference. In fact the power consumption is so low that you can use a regular battery as the power source. The Invro FM Radio will run on a single cell in any condition provided there is a scrap of energy left in it. A new cell will drive the radio for hundreds or even thousands of hours in the case of C and D size cells.
So the running cost of the radio has been reduced to a level practically anyone can afford, now the challenge is to reduce the manufacturing cost and to find a way of putting these radios in the hands of people who need them but may not be able to afford them.
